The gist of living for me at this time in my life is this: haven't tried it? Give it a shot. Last summer, with the aid of K, J, and C, I confronted several of my life's biggest fears.
1st: Snakes!! Upon arrival in Utah at their place, I held their little ball constrictor snake, which was a huge first step. Grandbaby C helped me by showing how the little snake likes to be held. Quite an ice-breaker.
2nd: Heights!! Several of my children really enjoy rock-climbing, and having tried it briefly on a short climbing wall at school, I decided to give it a shot. With J as my instructor and trusted belayer, we went to a local indoor rock-climbing facility. Guess part of the battle was won by the fact that I was in pretty good shape, which made the climbing part not as difficult as I had expected. Both K and J were great about sharing their insights into the technical parts of climbing, putting it into true layman's terms. FUN!
3rd: Sushi!! When you are watching a 2-year-old scarf down raw fish and veggies, it's a bit easier to take the bait (pun intended) yourself. Wow! I liked the barbecued eel and the pickled ginger the best, but even gave the raw tuna a taste....one!
Next big step? Dunno. Will keep it posted here.
